About this speaker
With a PhD in bioinformatics, Maria previously worked as a Senior Computational Scientist at Bayer, where she lead knowledge graph and data management projects in drug discovery and therapeutic target identification. During her postdoctoral years at the Friedrich-Schiller University in Jena, Germany, she developed an expertise in cheminformatics and natural products research, including creating the COCONUT database and contributing to major initiatives like the LOTUS project for curated natural products data.
At AstraZeneca, Maria leads the transformation from traditional data architectures to the semantic knowledge fabric/ Her work enables AI agents to understand pharmaceutical domain context and regulatory constraints—solving the critical "context starvation" problem that prevents enterprises from realising AI's full potential.
Maria brings deep technical expertise in semantic technologies and real-world experience implementing knowledge graphs at pharmaceutical scale, uniquely positioning her to share practical insights on building enterprise knowledge fabrics that enable AI transformation.
